Calvasculin
A calcium binding protein belonging to the family of S100 proteins. It was isolated originally from bovine aorta (Watanabe et al, 1992). In the nomenclature of CD antigens the protein has been given the designation S100A4.
Valvasculin is expressed by various cell types such as adipocytes, astrocytes, fibroblasts, keratocytes, macrophages, melanoma cells, monocytes, neurons, neutrophils, osteoclasts, Schwann cells, T-cells (see: individual cell types for references).
