also: cryptic peptides or crypteins (Autelitano et al, 2006) - unless one wants to make a distinction in the sense that cryptides are the peptide obtained from parent crypteins. These peptides are being referred to also as endogenous bioactive peptides or BAPs [biologically active peptides]. Others have referred to such fragments as microproteins, and the term probably also comprises what has been referred to as non-classical neuropeptides (see, for example, exorphins, casoxins). Some "hidden" bioactive fragments of parent proteins have been called also Intragenic antimicrobial peptides
