[Early growth response gene-1] An early response gene the transcription of which is rapidly and transiently stimulated in fibroblasts, epithelial cells, and lymphocytes following mitogenic stimulation.
Egr-1 has been shown to be identical with genes designated ETR103, d2, zif268, NGFI-A (see: NGFI), Krox-24 (see: Krox), ZENK, zfp6 [Zinc finger protein 6], and TIS8 (see: TIS genes).
