Debcl
[death executioner BCL2 homolog] Debcl is a Drosophila melanogaster gene related to members of the mammalian BCL2 family. Debcl has been isolated independently as drob-1, dBorg-1, and Dbok.
Structurally, Debcl resembles BAX. Ectopic expression of Debcl in cultured cells and in transgenic flies causes cell death by apoptosis. This process can be inhibited by coexpression of the baculovirus p35 protein, which inhibits the activity of caspases. DeBCLmediated apoptosis is not affected by gene dosage of reaper, Hid, and
