Caspases

[caspase]

This term refers to some members of a group of evolutionarily conserved cysteine proteases. Unlike other mammalian cysteine proteases (hence the "c" in Caspase), these aspartate-specific cysteine proteases (abbr. ASCP) cleave their substrates after aspartate residues (hence "aspase"). The catalytic consensus sequence of caspases is QAC(R/Q)G. All members of the caspase family share a number of amino acid residues crucial for substrate binding and catalysis (Walker et al, 1994; Wilson et al, 1994).

With the emergence of a number of proteases related to IL1-beta Convertase (referred to also as IL1-beta-converting enzyme-related proteases; abbr. IRP) and the ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
