This protein was identified in a yeast two-hybrid system as a protein interacting with the TNF receptor through the death domain sequence. Overexpression of wsl-1 in HEK293 cells or 3T3 cells induces cell death by apoptosis and leads to activation of transcription factor NF-kappa-B. wsl-1 specifically interacts with TRADD, a mediator of apoptosis pathways.
