[lymphocyte-specific protein-tyrosine kinase] The lck gene is an oncogene encoding a tyrosine-specific protein kinase of 56 kDa (p56lck) specific for lymphocytes, which belongs to the src family of tyrosine kinases. The kinase has been identified independently as YT16.
This gene, which maps to human chromosome 1p35-p32, is involved in the proliferation control of lymphocytes. lck is expressed exclusively in lymphoid cells, predominantly in thymocytes and peripheral T-cells (see also: hematopoiesis). The gene has been cloned by Rouer et al (1999).
