fyn is a non-receptor cytoplasmic protein (59 kDa) of unknown function belonging to the src family of tyrosine kinases. It shows 74 % amino acid identity to the tyrosine kinase domain of src.
fyn was isolated originally on the basis of sequence homology to another src family member, yes. Fyn contains an SH2 domain (see: src homology domains) which is necessary for its association with various target proteins.
As a result of alternative splicing, fyn exists as two isoforms that differ exclusively within a short sequence spanning the end of the SH2 region and the beginning of the tyrosine protein kinase domain. While one fyn isoform (fynB) is expressed highly in brain, the alternative product (
