[Lck/Yes-related novel protein tyrosine kinase; v-yes-1 Yamaguchi sarcoma viral related oncogene homolog] lyn is a cytoplasmic non-receptor tyrosine kinase belonging to the src family of tyrosine kinases. It was isolated originally on the basis of sequence homology to another src family member, yes. The human gene maps to chromosome 8 in the region q13-qter. A databank synonym is JTK8. The terms p53lyn and p56lyn refer to proteins of 53 kDa and 56 kDa, respectively, that are products of alternatively spliced lyn mRNA (Yamanishi Y et al, 1991).
