[heat shock protein 70] hsp70 is one of the heat shock proteins that mediate cellular protection in response to stress signals. For a bioactive fragment see also: Hsp70(241-258). hsp70 has been shown to interfere directly with the process of cell death by apoptosis. hsp70 has been shown to prevent the activation of caspases. It binds directly to APAF-1, one of the components of the apoptosome and prevents the recruitment of caspases to this complex.
