The approved gene symbol for Scotin is SHISA5 [shisa homolog 5], referring to a protein in Xenopus laevis that promotes head formation through inhibition of receptor maturation for Wnt and FGF (Yamamoto et al, 2005).
Zhang et al (2000) have referred to Scotin as HSPC217. They have cloned the Scotin cDNA from CD34(+) hematopoietic stem cell /progenitor cells. Scotin is expressed at low levels in some hematopoietic cell lines (NB4, Jurkat cells), but not in others (HL-60, K562, U937).
