A CD4(+) mature T-cell leukemia cell line. Jurkat cells phenotypically resemble resting human T-cells and have been widely used to study T-cell physiology. It is used in research on cytokines as a producer of IL2 (Pawelec et al, 1982) and also served as a source for the isolation of the IL2 gene (see also: TCGF, T-cell growth factor). Large amounts of IL2 are produced after stimulation of the cells with phorbol esters and either lectins or monoclonal antibodies directed against the T-cell antigen receptor. IL2
