NIX
[Nip3-like protein X] This mitochondrial protein is a member of the BCL2 family of proteins. It promotes cell death by apoptosis (Chen et al, 1999).
The protein is related to BNIP3. NIX is identical with BNIP3L and BNIP3-alpha (BNIP3A). NIX has been shown to interact with TSAP6. See: Adenovirus E1B 19 kDa protein.
Diwan et al (2007) have implicated NIX in erythroblast development. NIX is transcriptionally up-regulated during in vitro erythrocyte differentiation stimulated by erythropoietin, and knock-out mice
