[Latent TGF-beta binding protein-4] LTBP4 is one of four extracellular matrix glycoproteins complexing TGF-beta isoforms in a latent form that allows targeting and activation of this growth factor (see also: LTBP1, LTBP2, LTBP3) (Oklu and Hesketh, 2000).
A cDNA encoding a protein of 1587 amino acids (LTBP4L; latent TGF-beta binding protein-4L) has been isolated from human heart and melanoma gene libraries (Giltay et al, 1997; Saharinen et al, 1998). The mRNA is expressed highly in heart but is present also in skeletal muscle, pancreas, placenta and lung.
