mir-14
[microRNA 14] mir-14 is a Drosophila melanogaster representative of the class of small regulatory RNAs known as microRNAs that repress gene functions in metazoans through interactions with target mRNAs.
Loss of mir-14 has been shown to enhance cell death depending on reaper. Ectopic expression suppresses cell death induced by multiple stimuli. Animals lacking mir-14 are stress sensitive and have a reduced lifespan. In addition, mir-14 mutants express elevated levels of one of the apoptotic effector caspases, DRICE.
