This is a collective term for peptides resembling, or having some of the activities of, glucagon (Bataille et al, 1986; Holst, 1997). These peptides are present in the intestine and cross-react immunologically with antisera directed against the N-terminus, but not the C-terminus, of glucagon. The term may refer to Glicentin, and GLP-1 [glucagon-like peptide-1], but also to Oxyntomodulin or GLP-2 [glucagon-like peptide-2] (see also: proglucagon, which is the precursor of these peptides). In some publications the designation enteroglucagon specifically refers to glicentin.
