These cells, also dental follicle stem cells, are found in the dental follicle, an ectomesenchymal tissue surrounding the developing tooth germ. These cells have features of stem cells and progenitor cells. Human dental follicle cells express embryonic, mesenchymal and neural stem cells markers (Lima et al, 2017) and possess the capacity, given appropriate triggers, to commit to differentiation into multiple cell types. They function as genuine precursor cells of cementoblasts and alveolar bone osteoblasts and can commit also to differentiation into adipocytes
