this term has been used originally (Kroemer et al, 2009) to classify, at the time of writing, a number of biochemically ill-defined cell death modes that either do not show the classical signs of apoptosis or only partially show typical morphological and biochemical hallmarks of cell death. In their original nomenclature overview, Kroemer et al (2009) list examples of atypical cell death as

• Entosis
• Wallerian degeneration
