SECRET domain containing protein 2 |
||
This protein has been isolated from the venom of the western diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) (Torii et al, 1997). Apoxin I induces cell death by apoptosis in human umbilical vein endothelial, human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60, human ovarian carcinoma A2780, and mouse endothelial KN-3 cells. The amino acid sequence apoxin I shows close similarity to L-amino acid oxidase from the Malayan pit viper (Calloselasma rhodostoma). Purified apoxin I oxidizes L-leucine but not D-leucine to produce H2O2. Apoxin I-induced apoptosis is inhibited by catalase, a H2O2 scavenger. Torii et al (2000) have cloned the cDNA
