[Zav alloantigens]
This antigen, which exists in two allelic forms, designated Zav(a) and Zav(b), has been identified on platelets. This antigen is localized to the platelet glycoprotein complex GPIa/IIa, and specifically to the GPIa subunit. Zav alloantigens are identical with another antigen termed Br alloantigen (Smith et al, 1989). In the nomenclature of CD antigens this subunit is CD49b. In the nomenclature for platelet antigens the designation for this alloantigen is HPA-5 [human platelet antigen-5].
