Secretin is a hormone of 27 amino acids (HSDGTFTSELSRLREGARLQRLLQGLVamide) (Mutt et al, 1970) produced by S cells in the mucosa of the proximal small intestine. Neuropeptides such as bombesin, gastrin releasing polypeptide, PACAP, VIP, and galanin can modulate secretin release in secretin-producing cells (Chang et al, 1998)
Wheeler et al (1992) have shown that the secretin gene is expressed transiently in insulin-producing beta-cells
