[SRY-box containing gene 10; sex determining region Y-box 10; SRY-related HMG-box gene 10; SRY box 10] SOX10 is a transcription factor that contains a HMG box and belongs to a larger family of similar proteins. The cDNA and gene encoding this protein have been cloned by Pingault et al (1998) and Pusch et al (1998). Human and mouse SOX10 share 98 % amino acid identity.
