This term collectively refers to cells in the nervous system that are not neuronal cells (neurons) (see: also neuroglial cells) (for overview see: Kettenmann and Verkhratsky, 2011). A frequently used collective term for glial cells is gliocytes. The term radial gliocytes has been used occasionally to refer to Retinal glial cells normally known as Müller cells.
