approved gene symbol NUCB2. Nucleobindin-2 is a calcium-binding protein (Kroll et al, 1999). The protein is related to nucleobindin-1. Nucleobindin-2 has been identified independently as NEFA, gastric cancer antigen ZG4, and Wa antigen. The cDNA encoding nucleobindin-2 has been isolated by Barnikol-Watanabe et al (1994). Nucleobindin is found in the cytoplasm but also in the conditioned medium of cells (Barnikol-Watanabe et al, 1994).
