Livin
This human protein contains a single BIR domain and RING finger motif. The protein has been renamed BIRC7 [baculoviral IAP repeat-containing protein-7] (see also: IAP (inhibitor of apoptosis)) and has been described independently as KIAP Lin et al, 2000) and ML-IAP [melanoma inhibitor of apoptosis].
The gene maps to human chromosome 20q13.3. Transcripts are expressed in placenta and fetal brain, melanomas and, to a lesser extent, in HeLa cells. Livin inhibits cell death by apoptosis mediated by DR6,
