[Leu23(+), Leu23(-)]
Lanier et al (1988) have identified the Leu-23 antigen as a disulfide-linked homodimer composed of 24 kDa subunits with at least two N-linked carbohydrates. Its expression is induced rapidly on peripheral blood NK-cells and a unique subset of T-lymphocytes after exposure to IL2, without the requirement for exogenous cofactors or accessory cells. Leu-23 shares structural properties and a cellular distribution with two other cell activation antigens known as EA1 [early antigen 1], and MLR3, and Nakamura et al (1989) have shown that antibodies against Leu-23 recognize the EA1 antigen.
