[early antigen 1] EA1 is an early activation antigen expressed on human T-cells activated by Tetradecanoyl phorbol acetate. The EA1 is detected on approximately 60 % of isolated and cryopreserved thymocytes and at low level on 6-7 % of blood lymphocytes (Hara et al, 1986). Nakamura et al (1989) have shown that antibodies against Leu-23 recognize the EA1 antigen. Testi et al (1990) have shown that CD69 is detected by antibodies directed against EA1 and Leu-23.
In the nomenclature of CD antigens The EA1 antigen has been given the designation CD69.
