LICE

[lymphocytic ICE; ICE = IL1-beta converting enzyme] The gene for this 32 kDa protease was cloned from human Jurkat T-lymphocytes (Fernandes-Alnemri et al, 1994). The protein shows significant homology to Caenorhabditis elegans cell death protein CED3, mammalian IL1-beta Convertase, and the product of the mouse NEDD2 gene. This protease is now known as Caspase-3. See also: Caspases.
