LAT1

[system-L amino acid transporter 1] LAT1 is the human sodium ion-independent neutral amino acid transporter. Its expression is upregulated during cell activation of T-cells (Nii et al, 2001). Kanai et al (1998) have cloned the rat cDNA. The sequence is identical with that of MPE16 [membrane protein E16], which constitutes the light chain of the amino acid transporter.

In the nomenclature of CD antigens the LAT1 protein has been given the designation CD98LC (for light chain) (see: CD98).
