IL29
[interleukin-29] IL29 (200 amino acids) is related to Type 1 interferon and has been described independently as IFN-lambda-1 (Kotenko et al, 2003). IL29 is one of several proteins collectively referred to as type 3 interferons. A databank synonym is Zcyto21.
The gene has been identified by Sheppard et al (2003). The protein is 81 % identical with IL28A and IL28B. A low degree of homology is observed between IL29 and IL10, IFN-alpha-2, and IL22. The pattern of cysteine residues and the amphipathic profile of IL29 are similar to other helical cytokine family members.
