[interleukin-28A, interleukin-28-alpha] IL28A (IL28-alpha) (200 amino acids) is related to Type 1 interferon and has been described independently as IFN-lambda-2 (Kotenko et al, 2003). IL28A is one of several proteins collectively referred to as type 3 interferons. A databank synonym is Zcyto20.
The gene has been identified by Sheppard et al (2003). The protein is 96 % identical with IL28B and 81 % identical with IL29. A low degree of homology is observed between IL28A and IL10, IFN-alpha-2, and IL22. The pattern of cysteine residues and the amphipathic profile of IL28A are similar to other
