This is a general term used in the structural classification of cytokines rather than biological characterization according to bioactivities. These cytokines are characterized by the presence of a helical bundle fold, which is a four-helix bundle consisting of four amphiphatic helices with an up-up-down-down topology (Presnell and Cohen, 1989; Conklin et al, 1989; Rozwarski et al, 1994) (see also: class 1 cytokines).
