[hematopoietic protein 1] The approved gene symbol is NCKAP1L (Nck-associated protein-1-like].
The cDNA encoding the transmembrane protein Hem-1 of unknown function has been found to be expressed exclusively in hematopoietic cells (Hromas et al, 1991). The gene maps to human chromosome 12q13.1. Related, evolutionary conserved proteins have been isolated from Drosophila melanogaster (dhem-2; see: NCKAP1 [Nck-associated protein-1]), rat (Hem-2), and Caenorhabditis elegans (Baumgartner et al, 1995).
