Epitaxin

A poorly characterized motility factor (see also: Motogenic cytokines) of 36 kDa found in the conditioned medium of human fibroblasts (Shimonaka and Yamaguchi, 1994).

The factor stimulates the migration of HepG2 cells in the Boyden chamber assay (see also: Chemotaxis). Purified epitaxin stimulates the motility of HepG2 cells; its mode of action is mainly chemotactic. Epitaxin increases the motility of a wide variety of epithelial cell-derived tumor cell lines. Fibroblasts do not respond to the factor.
