[Death caspase-1] Dcp-1, encoded by gene CG5370, is one of the Drosophila melanogaster caspases, which resembles executioner caspases. Dcp-1 is structurally and biochemically similar to Caenorhabditis elegans CED3 and shares substrate similarity with Caspase-3 and CED3 (Song et al, 1997). The proform of Dcp-1 is activated in vivo by the pro-apoptotic proteins reaper and Grim, but not by Hid (Song et al, 2000). Dcp-1 is also cleaved by another Drosophila melanogaster caspase, DRICE (Frazer et al, 1997).
