[Deerpox virus 022 protein] This protein is encoded in the genome of deerpox virus. The protein shares limited regions of amino acid identity with two unique poxviral inhibitors of apoptosis, M11L and F1L.
DPV022 localizes to mitochondria. DPV022 interacts directly with BAK and BAX and prevents cell death by apoptosis induced by overexpression of these proteins. DPV022 blocks apoptosis even when all the endogenous mammalian anti-apoptotic proteins are neutralized by a combination of selective BH3 ligands.
