Cachexia inducing factor

This biochemically uncharacterized factor of 25 kDa is produced by the human melanoma cell line SEKI. It inhibits lipoprotein lipase expression in murine fibroblasts and does not appear to be identical with TNF-alpha (Kawakami et al, 1991). The authors have referred to the factor also as LPL suppression factor [lipoprotein lipase suppression factor].
