[melanoma-derived lipoprotein lipase inhibitor] This factor of 40 kDa is isolated from melanoma cells (Mori et al, 1989, 1991). The factor can be isolated also from a number of tumor cell lines that induce a metabolic cachexia syndrome if grown as transplanted tumors in experimental animals. MLPLI inhibits the lipoprotein lipase in adipocytes. Inhibition of this enzyme probably reduces the uptake of fatty acids and leads to the catabolism of lipids in fat tissues. The amino-terminal sequence of this factor is identical with that of LIF.
