The CCF18 cDNA was isolated from a cDNA gene library of the murine pro-B-cell line, BaF3, the growth of which depends on the presence of IL3. It encodes a protein structurally related to the CC-Chemokines, showing the highest homology to C10 and significant homology with MIP-1-alpha. The protein contains six instead of four conserved cysteine residues.
The protein is identical with MIP-1-gamma (see: MIP). The CCF18 gene (SCYA10; see also: SCY family of cytokines) maps to a middle region of murine chromosome 11. The factor has been renamed CCL9
