19A has been identified by Murphy et al (2002) as a lymphocyte-specific immunoglobulin superfamily protein that is a member of the CD2 family. In isolated lymphocytes, expression of 19A is induced by various cell activation stimuli, and enforced expression of the 19A gene promotes homotypic cell adhesion in a B-cell line model, suggesting a role in the regulation of lymphocyte adhesion.
In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD319.
