This family includes proteins that are related to the CD antigen CD2 and belong structurally to the Ig superfamily (Davis et al, 1998; Tangye et al, 2000). The CD2 family plays a major role in lymphocyte function and regulation. Several members of this family contain an immunoreceptor tyrosine-based switch motif, which is part of a molecular switch that allows the protein to associate with different phosphatases.
