abbr. LLPs (a term with multiple meanings). These peptides represent a conserved set of peptides derived from lentiviral envelope transmembrane proteins. They are potent and selective antibacterial peptides similar to cecropins and magainins in overall structure but unrelated in sequence.
The prototype sequence, LLP1 [lentivirus lytic peptide-1] (Miller et al, 1993), is bactericidal to both Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative organisms at micromolar concentrations.
