lentivirus lytic peptides

abbr. LLPs (a term with multiple meanings). These peptides represent a conserved set of peptides derived from lentiviral envelope transmembrane proteins. They are potent and selective antibacterial peptides similar to cecropins and magainins in overall structure but unrelated in sequence.

The prototype sequence, LLP1 [lentivirus lytic peptide-1] (Miller et al, 1993), is bactericidal to both Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative organisms at micromolar concentrations. LLP1 corresponds to residues 828-855 (RVIEVVQGACRAIRHIPRRIRQGLERIL) near the carboxy terminus of HIV1 transmembrane protein gp41 ( ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
