[Kinase phosphorylated during mitosis] This is a human homolog of a tumor suppressor gene identified originally in Drosophila melanogaster as warts (Hori et al, 2000). Two mammalian orthologs of warts have been identified in mammals: LATS1 (termed also Warts-1) and kpm, which has been termed LATS2 [large tumor suppressor-2].
kpm is a serine/threonine kinase. kpm negatively regulates cell growth by inducing G(2)/M arrest of the cell cycle and cell death by apoptosis
