The term host defense peptides is a broader definition as many of these peptides also have immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory activities, which may include counteracting the effects of endotoxins, chemotaxis, and angiogenesis (Easton et al, 2009; Yeung et al, 2011; for overview see also: Haney et al, 2017).
