The name glycoconnectin has been proposed by Mueller and Morrison (1981) for a sialoglycoprotein of human erythrocytes known as PAS 2. This glycoprotein connects the core of the cytoskeleton to the membrane bilayer.
In databanks the designation glycoconnectin is used as a synonym for glycophorin C, which, in the nomenclature of CD antigens, has been given the designation CD236.
In older publications PAS 2 is being referred to as glycophorin A (see, for example: Dahr et al, 1976).
