A term for a sheath of connective tissue cells (endoneurial cells or endoneural cells) surrounding a single axon or other extension of a single neuron. These cells form collagen fiber bundles that run in parallel with the endoneurial space, create a diffusion barrier, and, like cells of the epineurium and perineurium also provide a protective and supportive extracellular matrix for these neurons (Osawa et al, 2002; Dubovy et al, 2002; Ushiki and Ide, 1986).
