this designation refers to a granule-containing secretory cell type in the salivary / sublingual / submandibular gland that produce serous saliva (Hand et al, 1999; Kamata et al, 2007). The cells have been shown to produce alpha-amylase (Yamagishi et al, 2014), carbonic anhydrase (Noda et al, 1986), DCPP1 [demilune cell and parotid protein gene 1] (Bekhor et al, 1994; Dagdeviren D et al, 2018), histatins (Ahmad et al, 2004), kallistatin (Wolf et al, 1998), lipase (Hamosh, 1979), lysozyme (Mitani et al, 1989; Lee et al, 1990), Parotid secretory protein (Dagdeviren D et al, 2018).
