abbr. PSP (a term with multiple meanings). Parotid secretory protein has been identified originally as the most abundant translation product of mouse parotid glands. The Parotid secretory protein gene (C20orf70 [chromosome 20 open reading frame 70]) is expressed exclusively in the parotid gland (Shaw and Schibler, 1986). Its production is co-ordinated with that of salivary amylase.
The murine cDNA, which encodes a mature protein of 215 amino acids, and the gene have been cloned by Madsen and Hjorth (1985) and Poulsen et al (1986). PSPa and PSPb are alleles of murine Parotid secretory protein. PSPa is carried by DBA/2J mice and
