aminopeptidase N

This enzyme (EC3.4.11.2) catalyzes the sequential removal of amino acids from the aminotermini of polypeptide chains. The amino acid sequence of human intestinal aminopeptidase N as deduced from the cDNA has been described by Olsen et al (1988). It is virtually identical with the sequence derived from the cDNA encoding CD13 (Look et al, 1989).

In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD13.
