[zinc finger protein 296] The murine gene has been cloned by Dear (2000). The gene has been identified as one of the genes enriched in mouse embryonic stem cells by in silico differential display screening (Mitsui et al, 2003).
Fischedick et al (2012) have reported that Zfp296 is expressed specifically in pluripotent stem cells and germ cells and strongly enhances the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells during reprogramming with the OSKM cocktail.
